It has been very hard for me since I lost my second husband to cancer in 2012. I was not with him when he passed away and did not have the closure I needed. Since I always laughed at his inflexibility, I nicknamed him fonfon in Chinese, which means square-square. I’m currently working on a series of square (him) and round (me) shape paintings.
I also have some portraits of friends and family in mind to work on. I love to paint people, and I go to live drawing sessions whenever I can. Painting people that I have emotions for takes a long time!
I’m very happy to have my passion in Art that helps to fend off the pains of my aging body.
When Sabrina lost both her father and husband in the early 1990’s she found solace in art with the guidance from her good friend and mentor Anna Kelly. In the summer of 2001, she had a breakthrough after taking a workshop with Joan Archer and began to study drawing and painting in earnest.
From 2001-2004, she studied art at Santa Monica Emeritus College and Art Center of Design in Pasadena. She has studied with Skip Lawrence and Chris Schink; Henry Fukuhara and Milford Zornes, and Carla O’Connor.
She uses color and texture in ways that evoke special emotions and memories in each of her paintings.
